Description
Italiano: STATUA - Figura antropomorfa spezzata all'altezza dell'ombelico e con braccia fratturate. In evidenza capezzoli e ombelico. Il volto presenta una bocca larga e aperta e naso con grandi narici forate, che parte dalla sommità della fronte. Occhi circolari e orecchie triangolari sporgenti.

Sovente su queste statue sono state riscontrate rotture intenzionali, probabilmente rituali e comunque precedenti i loro interramento negli pseudotumuli (cioè tumuli senza traccia di sepoltura) da cui provengono. Fra le sculture di Bankoni si ritrovano figure di cavalieri, personaggi con barba, figure inginocchiate con mani sulle ginocchia o incrociate sul petto, coppie di personaggi che interagiscono fra loro costruendo una scena.

Si tratta di un cultura sviluppatasi fra IX e XVII in connessione con il mercato carovaniero transahariano che collegava il Mediterraneo alla regione delle foreste.
