Italiano: BAMBOLA MWANA HITI - Figura antropomorfa in cui si rappresenta solo la parte superiore del corpo. In evidenza sono le protuberanze dei seni e dell'ombelico, così come le incisioni curvilinee sul ventre. Le spalle sono rese attraverso un piano circolare da cui parte il volume cilindrico del collo. Il volto è appuntito, le orecchie sporgenti. Elemento visivamente dominante è l'ampia aconciatura bipartita.
Le figure mwana hiti (""bambini di legno"") vengono create in occasione dei riti d'iniziazione femminili. Come riferisce Felix le statuine sono attivate attraverso sacrifici e mettendole vicine alle figure degli antenati del clan paterno. Le ragazze trattano le statuine come se fossero bambini vestendole e agghindandole, lavandole e nutrendole e danzano con esse all'uscita del campo di iniziazione. Togliendo alla statuina ogni ornamento e mettendola in una zucca, la si disattiva. Una donna che non può avere figli ""adotterà"" la statuina. Il termine ""bambola"" può quindi essere sviante: non si tratta di giocattoli quanto di oggetti simbolici. |
