Italiano: CIMIERO CIWAKUN - In questa figura di antilope il corpo è contratto fino a costituire una sorta di piedistallo a quattro piedini su cui si erge la testa dell'animale con le sue lunghe orecchie e le corna ricurve all'indietro. La testa fortemente appiattita è costiuita da un semidisco la cui linea si prolunga nel muso, d cui si colgono naso e bocca. Superficie incisa a motivi lineari. Ciocche di pelo completano la scultura
Le maschere della società ciwara presiedevano ai culti dei campi incoraggiando i contadini nel lavoro e mettendoli in competizione fra loro. Ciwara celebra il sole e i suoi effetti benefici sulla terra. La zappa del contadino, così come il sole, feconda la terra e la rende produttiva. Diversamente da altre società iniziatiche bamana, quella ciwara consente una certa partecipazione anche alle donne. Se a portare le maschere di questa società maschile sono sempre uomini, le donne possono però partecipare a una parte dei riti e mangiare la carne dei sacrifici (Colleyn 1998). Le maschere danzano in coppie formate da un'antilope maschio e da una femmina. Talora però, in certe zone, la figura rappresentata costituisce un assemblaggio di diversi animali: antilope, pangolino, oritteropo, faraona. Secondo Dominique Zahan (1980) le ciocche di pelo rimanderebbero simbolicamente alle efflorescecenze delle piante coltivate (corna e orecchie). |
