English: RV 'Prince Madog' departing Bangor. Research vessel RV 'Prince Madog' departing Bangor harbour for the Isle of Man. She had stayed at Bangor overnight after carrying out survey work in Belfast Lough.
Normally seen off Welsh waters, the state-of-the-art purpose built research vessel was commissioned by Bangor University (Wales) and is managed and operated by VT Group. For other Geograph images of the same ship see 877879 and 3043481 . See also http://www.sos.bangor.ac.uk/about/facilities/madog/index.php.en . The vessel is named after the Welsh Prince Madog (Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd) who, according to folklore, discovered America in 1170 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Madog . |
