English: Embroidered fundraising signature quilt made by Red Cross and St. Johns, Redcliffs, near Christchurch, WW1, includes signature of Lieut. Gilbert Archey, New Zealand Field Artillery, who later became Director of Auckland War Memorial Museum. unlined cloth; central rectangle with red border and St John's Maltese Cross inside a circular band with embroidered name, "Redcliffs Christchurch New Zealand’; the band has four finials bearing embroidered badges of the New Zealand Field Artillery, New Zealand Infantry, New Zealand Mounted Rifles and New Zealand Engineers; four pairs of crossed flags (Union Jacks and NZ Blue Ensigns) in corners of rectangle; remainder of cloth divided into squares with signatures arranged in groupings; with red border at outer edge; signatures include names of servicemen and family members

Embroidered fundraising signature quilt made by Red Cross and St. Johns, Redcliffs, near Christchurch, WW1 In April 1918 Redcliffs Red Cross workers completed a quilt which was to be presented to the Walton-on-Thames Hospital in England. Both parents of the donor, were associated with this hospital. The cloth includes approximately 1200 signatures and raised the sum of 53 pounds for Red Cross Funds. It includes the signature of Lieut. Gilbert Archey, New Zealand Field Artillery (lower right-hand corner), who later became Director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
