English: The image depicts a traffic scene and is captioned "Right".
Road Safety Council The most vulnerable position in a private car, in the case of accident, is the kerb side of the front seat and the safest is the middle of the back seat, states the Queensland Road Safety Council, whose aim is to reduce the toll of the roads. The statistics of Australia's road toll are still frightening the Council says. In 71 per cent of all fatal accidents resulting from human failings, the road user killed was primarily responsible for his own death. It is also estimated that the annual economic cost of road accidents amounts to £25,000,000. This sum would be sufficient to employ over 40,000 workers at the basic wage rate for one year. Investigations have also shown that approximately half the fatal accidents occur on straight roads and in rural districts and also the fact that boys are victims of road accidents five times more frequently than girls. In making competitive awards to commercial drivers, the council says that these men are, during their working hours, ambassadors of goodwill, and by talking on road safety out of working hours, they can become ambassadors of good sense. Being constantly exposed to the bad driving habits of many road users, the experience of commercial drivers can be an education for others.
