Tourmaline on Quartz
This stark quartz crystal features a dramatic, GEM CLEAN, 5 x 1 x 0.7 cm indicolite hanging off the edge. I can freely admit it LOOKS like a fake, it is so unlikely. This is why Gamini picked it, in fact. He liked the stark contrast of geometry even though the terminations align in symmetry. The tourmaline is GEM...not jsut clean and pretty, but gemmy enough to cut in its entirety. it is gem rough! The tourmaline is pristine save one very clean, hard to spot repair about the middle, and is technically terminated in a contact at the bottom end, while sharply terminated atop. I traded Steve Smale $12,000 for this specimen a few years ago (his label comes with it, noting this); and I bumped the crystal in setting up for Tucson last year. Thus, although the repair is literally so clean as to be invisible except on closest inspection, I am reducing the price to nearly half what I traded for it now (with the painting for free?!). The quartz is complete all around, and doubly-terminated, with a little cloud of sparkling purple lepidolite hanging around the base as well. Its a very fine piece as witnessed by the fact that it stayed int he collection of one of the world's pickiest tourmaline collectors for nearly 15 years - it LOOKS like it should cost alot more. Matrix gem indicolites are, after all, extremely rare. Price includes specimen, painting, and custom lucite base for display.
