Description
English: A New York City Transit Police emergency call box near the rebuilt entrance to the Briarwood (Briarwood–Van Wyck) subway station on the west side of the Van Wyck Expressway south/west of Queens Boulevard and Main Street in Briarwood, Queens. I have never seen anything like this in the subway system, although I would guess this is from the 1970s or 1980s. The top of it also seems to function as a ventilation shaft. The transit police technically doesn't exist anymore, as it is now a division of the NYPD; NYPD Transit District 20 is headquartered at the station. Meanwhile the MTA and the subsidiary Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority have their own police forces.
