Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Today is Mahashivaratri. In the picture is a human-beast depiction from mythology, known as Purushamriga. It would be fascinating to know that this depiction of Purushamriga worshipping Shiva is found in almost every Shiva temple in South India (and perhaps north too). Purushamriga is apparently mentioned in Mahabharata, as well as in the Atharva Veda.
