Summary
[edit]DescriptionPuckpits Inclosure - geograph.org.uk - 57461.jpg |
English: Puckpits Inclosure. This massive pollarded Beech tree is in the woodbank that marks the southern boundary of Puckpits Inclosure. This dates from 1700 and is one of the few places where any of that first planting, made possible by the Inclosures Act of 1698, remains. Pollarding and coppicing can extend the natural life of native hardwoods several times over, so it is quite possible that this Beech was planted soon after the woodbank itself was created. |
