SCENE AT CHESTERTON IND.

Date: Circa 1910 Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: M. L. Photo Company (#28) Postmark: February 15, 1911, Chesterton, Indiana Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: This photograph was taken looking west along the north side of Indiana Avenue. The church visible on the right side of this image is the Methodist Episcopal Church, which today [2015] would be the northwest corner of Indiana Avenue and Second Street. To the left of the church is the public school of Chesterton; the Westchester Public Library now stands at the site of the school. The brick structure was built during the fall of 1879 at a cost of about $4,000. The steeple seen is the distance is St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Constructed in 1876, St. Patrick was destroyed by fire in 1998.
