English: Edwin Bergner (1903-1980), former prisoner of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, standing in front of the gate of the camp, photographed by his Buchenwald-friend of Polish nationality, Kazimierz Nowicki (1923-1977), who visited the place with him. They both had been in the Kassel subcamp during World War 2, where they co-operated in the clandestine communist movement and ant-Nazi sabotage.
Edwin Bergner was the first director of the Buchenwald Memorial, taking up the post in 1961.
Deutsch: Edwin Bergner (1903-1980), ehemaliger Häftling des KZ Buchenwald, vor dem Tor des Lagers, fotografiert von seinem guten Buchenwaldfreund dem Polen Kazimierz Nowicki (1923-1977), der mit ihm diese Gedenkstätte besucht hat. Beide waren im KZ im Außenlager Kassel, wo sie heimlich als Kommunisten mitarbeiteten und im Widerstand aktiv waren.
Edwin Bergner wurde 1961 erster Direktor der Gedenkstätte Buchenwald.
Polski: Edwin Bergner (1903-1980), były więzień obozu koncentracyjnego Buchenwald przed bramą wejściową, zdjęcie zrobił jego buchenwaldzki przyjaciel Kazimierz Nowicki (1923-1977), który wraz z nim odwiedził to miejsce. Podczas wojny obaj przebywali jakiś czas na komenderówce Kassel, gdzie działali w tajnym ruchu komunistycznym i uprawiali antyhitlerowski sabotaż.
Bergner został w 1961 r. pierwszym dyrektorem Miejsca Pamięci w Buchenwald. |
