Description |
English: Every year since 1996, Hindu immigrants from India and Sri Lanka have gathered on a September afternoon in the streets of the northern 10th arrondissement and the eastern 18th arrondissement to celebrate the god Ganesh. The "Ratha Yatra", a chariot festival, is one of the most popular festivals in India and Sri Lanka. In Hinduism, Ganesh (often called Ganapati in southern India) is the god of wisdom, intelligence, education and prudence. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is traditionally depicted with a human body and an elephant's head with a single tusk. // Here, women carry on their heads the "kumbam" (copper pot) decorated with mango leaves and coconuts. |
