Description
English: As a result of finding the minimum resistance of a frustum, Newton shows that replacing the front part of a solid with a frustum when the slope of the solid becomes greater than one reduces the overall resistance. He thought incorrectly that doing the same to the bow of a ship might reduce its resistance through the water. The following shows Newton’s result and that it can be improved to reduce the resistance further. See also:
