Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrincetown, The Railway Inn - geograph.org.uk - 1070820.jpg |
English: Princetown: The Railway Inn The horse-drawn Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway or tramway reached Princetown in 1826, and terminated in a depot behind where the Railway Inn now stands. The Railway Inn itself dates from the following year, and was primarily a coaching inn. The steam-powered railway from Yelverton was not built until 1883 and its terminus was in a different location about 400 metres away to the west. This route was closed by British Railways in 1956, so the Railway Inn both pre-dated and outlasted it by some considerable margins. |
