[edit]DescriptionPresident Bush tours the Squires Peak fire, August 2002. (24191201113).jpg |
Seems like it was just yesterday when the Squires Fire was ignited by lightning on July 13, 2002. Because firefighters were unable to quickly extinguish the fire, it only burned 2,800 acres of forest, including more than 800 acres of private land. President Bush toured the fire in August of the same year. The fire burned the habitat of threatened spotted owls and the Gentner's Fritillary, an endangered flowering plant, as well as three million board feet of commercial timber. The fire cost $2 million to suppress, and cost over $1 million to rehabilitate. #TBT #presidentsday To learn more about BLM’s wildland fire program head on over to: www.blm.gov/or/resources/fire |
