| Description |
English: Around 150 species of migratory birds have been spotted in a wetland in Jhajjar which has become a paradise for birdwatchers. This 1000-acre wetland in Jhajjar located in Mandothi village has been discovered by the birders recently compared to other wetlands in the region. As it has been attracting so many birds every year, the locals are demanding ‘wetland status’ for the area. This comprises an integrated network of scrubland, fallow and reeds, flooded zones that support a variety of bird species. The tree cover is primarily provided by trees of the Acacia and small shrubs. In addition, this wetland has rich reed beds of Typha, Phragmites, and water hyacinth. It is a destination within the Central Asian flyway which is one of the major migration routes for birds flying from Europe, Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent during winter. It is based on a larger wetland complex comprising Najafgarh (Sahibi river basin) and Sultanpur National Park along with wetlands in Jhajjar District (Digital village), which together form a large ecosystem for migratory birds |
