Summary
[edit]DescriptionPower Up - Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum - Smethwick Engine (8622085035).jpg |
English: A collection of old machines / engines on Level 0 of Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum. The area called "Power Up"
These were previously on display at the old Science Museum on Newhall Street (until 1997).
It was installed in Smethwick in 1779 by Boulton and Watt. It was removed in 1891. By the 20th century, Birmingham City Council owned it. It was in the old Newhall Street science museum, until it was moved to Thinktank. It still works, and is the oldest working engine in the world. A walk around the exterior of the engine. Steps - not sure where they go though. |
