That is the way-he has made his success in breeding. Now we find that any one who hasgood birds can win; but one must havethe birds; and it is not always best to think that no one else has any good ones. The old reliable breeders will sell youeggs from their best birds and oftenone can produce winners from them, butgreat care must be given to the chicks, for no matter how good your stock is if they do not receive good care they willnot make a prize winner. Mr. Bishergives his wife the credit for winning, asit is she who takes care of the birds andcaused the success in raising the prizewinners.

POULTRY FANCIER 375 Breeding of Prize- Winning and Bred to Lay S. C.Buff Leghorns. Mervin Wintrode, Littlestown, Pa. In felceting a breed of chickens onehas to be aided by the object for whichthey are to be kept. One breed willhave a decided call over another in cer-tain respects, whether it be for eggs ora table fowl. But no matter what thebreed, unless a proper and thoroughsystem is followed in the care and man-agement, no profits of any consequencecan possibly be made. Now for the manwho has the necessary fitness, patienceand grit, there is no occupation moreprofitable, more interesting and morehealthful than this. The individual whowould make a success of poultry wouldsucceed in other walks of life, and thosewho fail in other spheres of labor mustnot turn to poultry with the idea that it color. We want the male bird to be rich, oven buff, with a very little dark inwings and saddle. Pay special attentionto shape, as that is where many judgesmark to the Standard of Perfection. Wemate
