Text Appearing Before Image:
Baltimore St., Baltimore, Md. the fact that they do not set is an enhancement oftheir value. We often stop and admire the supremegrace and movements of a blooded horse, and we areforced to betray astonishment at a sight of animalbeauty; so, too, involuntary admiration escapes us onbeholding the Blue Andalusian. The large red comband wattles form the setting for pure white ear lobes, and the glossy bluish well laced breast, calls to mindour National Emblem, the clean blue legs, and exceed-ingly graceful form finish off our picture in a halo ofneatness and activity. This statement is not made asour idle boast, but is the outcome of 20 years of actualexperience with this breed. My ample opportunitiesto compare them with other fowls, (for I have brednearly everything in the American standard) con-vinces me, that the Blue Andalusians step into thelime-light as the standard of thorough -bred stock. Thestandard weights required are: Cock, 6; Cockerel, 5;Hen, 5 ; Pullet, 4. 426 POULTRY FANCIER
Text Appearing After Image:
t POULTRY FANCIER 427 The Exhibitor With Other Things Between the Lines. By F. D. Rogers, Elgin, III. In our last months article on ThePoultry Judge we promised for thismonth a short talk on the exhibitor. While the shows are over for the pres-ent, this article may seem a little out ofseason, but now, fellow fancier, is justthe time to begin to think about the show-room, when the eggs go in the machine orin any kind of incubation. Many timesbeginners will send away to some reliablebreeder and purchase eggs, perhaps at along figure, hatches and raises them in themost hap-hazard way, puts them in theshow-room in poor condition, and thenkicks because he did not win all the blueribbons. Let us pause a second and say righthere eggs from the best birds of any va-riety in the Standard will not produce ANo. 1 winners unless they have had theproper care and attention from shell toshow-room. Chickens are not like bur-docks, they have to have care. I have heard so many people say, Oh,I dont care
