Title |
Post medieval mount; bar mount with decorative terminal |
||
Description |
English: Post medieval mount; cast copper alloy bar mount of probable 17th or 18th century date. The mount is a long strip of copper alloy with a moulded terminal at one end. The terminal is roughly teardrop shaped, coming to a long point rather like a clock hand. There is a transverse ridge across the mount between the terminal and the main strip. The moulded shape of the terminal is only pronounced on the underside of the mount. The upper side is smooth and slightly convex all the way along the strip. The surface of the underside becomes rough and unfinished beyond the ridge and there is a single, circular, integral rivet at the other end from the terminal. The function of this mount is at present unclear.
