Title
Post medieval lead cloth seal
Description
English: Incomplete post medieval lead two-part cloth seal, unidentified continental import.

D.18.1x14.4mm//missing; casting seam and textile impression on reverse; weighs 2.75g.

Draped figure facing within pellet border, holding sword. A ?feather extends from the neck to each side of the head// (on rivet) part of (?heraldic convention for fur)

Geoff Egan comments: It may possibly be St Pol in France (cf. Egan 1994, British Museum Occasional Paper 93, Lead Cloth Seals and Related Items in the British Museum, no.304) where the heraldic convention for fur may perhaps be what is represented on the rivet.

The cloth seal is likely to be 16th/ 17th century in date.
