Title |
Post Medieval bodkin (plan, and reverse). |
||
Description |
English: The pin is bent a few times, due to damage rather than intention. The pin is rectangular in section with slightly rounded edges tapers gradually to a blunt point at the lower terminal. The upper terminal is broken and has a rectangular slot which originally would have been a perforation rather than a slot. The break is recent. On both faces, below the slot there are linear grooves forming a triangular decoration. On one face there is a maker's mark which is an 'M'. The surface of the pin is slightly tarnished and scratched. It is apparent from a visual examination that the dress fastener is made from silver. |
