Title
Post Medieval Shoe Buckle
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy Post Medieval shoe buckle, dating to c. 1690-1720 AD. The buckle consists of a sub-rectangular buckle frame, a chape with single internal spike, and a sub-triangular pin; all complete. The buckle frame and components are curved convex in order to sit comfortably against the shoe. The frame is drilled through the centre for a separate spindle; from the high degree of iron corrosion located at the central spindle, it is seems that it was composed of iron instead of copper alloy like the rest of the buckle. The buckle measures: 46.8 mm long, 38.1 mm wide, 5 mm maximum thickness and weighs 25.79 grams.

For an identical example cf. Whitehead 2003, No. 662.
