Title
Post-medieval shoe or knee buckle frame
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval two-piece trapezoidal buckle, probably a shoe or knee buckle. The frame is broadly rectangular with concave sides with moulded fluting, and expanded, rounded outer edges. Both outer edges are rabetted with a large transverse groove directly to the side of the aperture. The underside of the buckle is bevelled internally. The spindle is missing, but there is evidence in the form of iron corrosion product to show what it was made of. The frame is now a largely dull dark-brown colour with a few patches of off-white corrosion product in places. Similar buckle frames can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 98-99).
