Title |
Post-medieval double-looped asymmetrical buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A slightly corroded and bent cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame of asymmetrical form. One loop is trapezoidal while the other is D-shaped. The former has two curved removals on its outer edge; the edge is delineated by a transverse incision on the upper surface. The rounded end of the other loop is also slightly expanded. It is slightly rabetted at its outer edge; within this are pairs of diagonal incisions that delineate the centre. The upper surface is bevelled shallowly from the internal edge to the external. The pin is missing. The artefact has been bent around the pin bar at an angle of 20-30 degrees. Such buckles tend to be attributed a 17th-century date (cf. Whitehead 1996, 91; ref. 572). This artefact has corroded to a dull grey colour with some patches of off-white and light-green corrosion product. |
