Title |
Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A corroded and bent cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. One loop of the buckle is D-shaped, the other is sub-trapezoidal. The former features a centrally protruding moulded knop on its outer edge. The outer edge of the other loop is slightly recessed on its lower surface. In general the lower surface of the buckle is flat and undecorated. By contrast, the upper surface features deeply cut decoration which forms moulded ridges. The buckle has corroded to a mid-dark green colour with some areas of red corrosion product. The artefact is significantly bent in profile around the pin bar. Similar examples can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92). |
