Title |
Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle |
||
Description |
English: A corroded and bent cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. One loop of the buckle is oval, while the other is broadly rectangular. The former appears to have a double moulding central on its outer edge. The rectangular loop has transverse mouldings along it length. The lower surface of the buckle is flat and undecorated. The edges of the upper surface are steeply bevelled internally and externally. The buckle has corroded to a mid-green colour with a wide dusting of off-white corrosion product. Iron corrosion product from the missing pin extends from the centre of the pin bar round the interior of the oval loop to the centre of its outer edge. One of the loops has been bent upwards at an angle of around forty degrees either as a result of old damage or of use. Similar examples can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92). |
