Title
Post-Medieval toy pistol
Description
English: Part of a multi-component three-dimensional Post-Medieval copper alloy toy pistol. It is incomplete, missing its mechanism. It weighs 45.36g and measures in total 121x15x8mm.

The stock, barrel, ramrod pipe and pan have been cast in one piece and there are four holes in the stock: three for the lock mechanism and one for the ramrod (both now missing). The vent is large and the, now damaged, pan integrally cast. A long tapering bent butt terminates in an octagonally fluted ovoid pommel. The fore-end of the stock is rounded, there is a deep transverse groove across the breech and the barrel is faceted.

It is very similar to object 1.44 (Forsyth and Egan 2005), though less decorated. These pistols were probably based on the so-called lemon-butted pistols which date from 1610-1630, and it is likely that the toy pistols were produced around this time (Forsyth and Egan 2005). A date of 1620-1640 is often suggested (Forsyth and Egan 2005).
