Title
Post-Medieval buckle
Description
English: A Post-Medieval copper alloy single-looped buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1500-1700. The frame is D-shaped plan and plano-convex in cross section, with the outer edge of the loop expanded into a point. The bar is flanked by knops and there are no indications of any breaks on the opposite side. A copper alloy pin is retained in situ. The front of the frame is decorated with punched, probably foliate, decoration, within which traces of gilding survive.

Dimensions: length 26.8mm; width 26.6mm; thickness of frame 2.3mm; weight 5.04g.

Although unusual in its being single looped, a combination of punched decoration, gilding, form and patination would all suggest an early Post-Medieval date. cf. SOM-3C30B8, amongst others.
