Title
Post-Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy and iron buckle. Cast sub-rectangular buckle frame with a separate chape of anchor form with trefoil projections, Whitehead (1996) type 3. The frame bears moulded vertically ribbed decoration on its upper and lower edges and is stepped twice at either end, with a row of neatly stamped and closely juxtaposed annulets of diameter c.1mm along each outer edge. Rounded knops at the housing for the spindle running through the chape bear similar annulets in a more crowded arrangement. A maker's mark reading ES appears in a central panel on the upper side of the chape. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1660-1720
