Title |
Possible post medieval ear ring bottom view |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy cast hollow circular object, possibly an ear-ring. The thickness of the piece decreases towards what is probably the top, where there is a large circular aperture. There are irregular swirl-type markings over most of the surface. A small hole appears at the outside edge of the widest part. Identical to an object recorded on the database as a post-medieval ear-ring at BH-18B614. The object is 15.5mm in diameter, 7.8mm wide and weighs 1.6g.
These objects are frequently found and many appear to be post-medieval or even modern, although some have decoration and have been identified as Iron Age ( e.g. BH-439987 and SWYOR-3A3221), citing parallels in the Champagne region of France, illustrated in the Morel Collection (I.M. Stead and V. Rigby; 1999; fig. 120). |
