Title
Possible medallion of Carausius obv
Description
English: Copper alloy coin or medallion with a diameter of 36mm and a weight of 13.23g.

This piece is incredibly worn. On the obverse there is a faint trace of a bust right which might have the features of Carausius (AD 286-93) - sadly this cannot be captured on a photograph. Although this might seem far-fetched, the British Museum has a medallion of Carausius which measures 38mm in diameter and weighs 13.21g. The BM piece is made of orichalcum (brass) and appears to have been overstruck on an earlier dupondius of the first of second centuries AD. It is just possible that this new find is similar. However, this will always remain speculative. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.
