Title |
Possible Popst-Medieval Toy Gun fragment from Scotton |
||
Description |
English: Lead Alloy, possibly painted
Probable Toy. Cast fragment from a tubular object of externally angular form, possibly originally octagonal. Two flat surfaces with a shallow gutter are represented: one bears a pair of bosses with a longitudinal mould line running through their centres, and the other bears the letters S G ?N, possibly reserved from a painted surface of uncertain hue. It is suggested this may be a small fragment from the barrel of a toy pistol. These initially followed the form of contemporary firearms, but subsequently perhaps lagging behind the times, and some probably being provided with a firing mechanism using black powder - though this might be for effect rather than its projectile power. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1800. Length: 22mm, Width: 17.6mm, Thickness: 3.6mm, Weight 4.94gms |
