Description

Porpidia crustulata (Ach.) Hertel & Knoph, 1984

Photograph of a cross section of an apothecium from Porpidia crustulata taken through a compound microscope (x400) showing asci with 8 hyaline spores.

This specimen of Porpidia crustulata was growing on a sandstone rock near the Endless Mountain Retreat, S on County Road 601, approximately 2.4 miles from US 250 in Highland County, Virginia, USA.

Collected and determined by E.C. Uebel (No. U-421, 8 Jun 2002).
