Description

Uma visita obrigatória na Aldeia Vinhateira de Ucanha é, sem dúvida, a Ponte e a Torre. Este conjunto, ex-libris da freguesia e do concelho, está classificado como Monumento Nacional. A ponte fortificada, única em Portugal, testemunha a organização senhorial medieva, numa época em que a economia dominical se baseava na cobrança de direitos e foros.

Une duas freguesias, Ucanha e Gouviães, e estende-se sobre o refrescante rio Varosa. Estes dois elementos singulares foram mandados erigir pelo Abade D. Fernando, para protecção da entrada para as chamadas terras do mosteiro de Salzedas. Deduz-se que a povoação se tenha desenvolvido devido à obrigatoriedade da passagem da ponte. A torre terá sido elevada, a partir do momento em que o convento de Salzedas adquiriu os direitos de portagem da mesma.
