Description
English: Italy Italy, Ponte Buggianese, Piazza del Santuario. The church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in the 17th century and rebuilt in the first half of 19th century. The façade is formed by a porch consisting of three arcades resting on four stone columns. The interior is divided into three wide naves and end in an apse, the presbytery is surmounted by a dome. Along the walls are sandstone altars and confessionals from 17th and 18th centuries, stucco decorations and two sandstone stoups from 16th century. The church was frescoed between 1967 and 1976 by Pietro Annigoni and his students. The right altar is dedicated to “Our Lady of the Good Counsel” with a miracolous image from the 18th century solemnly crowned by the Pope John Paul II on November 7, 1981. This plaque is placed beside the altar dedicated to “Our Lady of the Good Counsel”.
