Description The Police Athletic League (PAL) building, formerly Grammar School 47, at 34 1/2 East 12th Street between University Place and Broadway in Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1855 and was designed by Thomas R. Jackson in Italianate style. It was one of the earliest public schools for girls in New York City, and became a high school for girls in 1897, and Girls Technical High School in 1902. It was been owned by the NYPD since 1958. In 1998 it was designated a NYC landmark. (Source: Guide to NYC Landmarks (4th ed.))
