Object history

1920: transferred to National Museum in Warsaw (MNW) from Muzeum Przemysłu i Rolnictwa, Warsaw

deposited to Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN) by National Museum in Warsaw (MNW)
Notes For a Jewish woman, marriage meant having to submit to the ritual of having her hair cut off and putting on a cap, which thenceforth become her daily headdress. Holiday caps were richly ornamented with embroidery and lace, and were often worn with an elegant binde. In 1853, bindes, turbans, dresses in the Jewish style, and coloured shoes were declared illegal (Russian Imperial Decree of 25 October 1853).
