Description
English: The subject of the painting is the Siberian exile of Poles after their defeated w:January Uprising (1863) against the Russian Empire. The painting depicts the stop of the exiled convoy by the obelisk that marks the border between Europe and Asia. The artist himself is among the exiled here, near the obelisk, on the right.[1]
