September 1857 according to the National Army Museum website Hodson's Horse was a unit of loyalist Indian cavalry raised by Brevet Major William Stephen Raikes Hodson during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). Depicted here engaging rebel cavalry, their distinctive uniforms of scarlet turbans and beige tunics are clearly evident. |
