Description
Français : Plan et élévation du second Palais de l'Intendant - 1726

« De 1715 à 1719, Jean-Maurice-Josué Boisberthelot de Beaucours entreprend, à la demande de l’intendant Bégon, la construction d’un nouveau palais monumental afin d’accueillir les appartements de l’intendant.

Il sera construit selon les plans de Claude-Dorothée La Guer de Morville. La monumentalité de l’édifice est impérative afin de bien représenter le statut de l’intendant et de ses occupants dans la colonie. Le palais présente donc un sous-sol vouté, deux étages de maçonnerie, un étage mansardé et un toit couvert d’ardoises. L’avant-corps central est entouré de deux pavillons et l’entrée principale se situe sur un perron à double rampe.

En plus de la résidence de l’intendant et sa suite, l’édifice héberge une salle pour le conseil, une salle pour la prévôté (le premier degré de la justice royale), une chapelle, une bibliothèque, les cuisines et une salle commune. »
