Title |
Plaited silver wire ring, probably modern |
||
Description |
English: Ring made from plaited silver wire. Each strand of the plait basically consists of six wires, although in places due to the ending of various strands this drops to five or four. The wires in each strand are neatly parallel. The sides of the ring are not straight; they are C-shaped in cross-section, with the exterior of the ring convex and the interior concave. The ring is now slightly squashed, and measures 20 x 16.5 mm externally and 4 mm deep. Similar rings made of plaited groups of silver wires are known across the country; they vary in size, shape and tightness of plait. Where the wire has been examined it appears to be silver. It is thought that they are probably modern (and hence not subject to the Treasure Act 1996) but their function and exact date are unknown. |
