Summary

[edit]
Description Union Pacific 844 is a 4-8-4 Berkshire locomotive built in 1944 by American Locomotive Company in Schenectady NY. Unlike steam locomotives in museums, this working locomotive is greasy and drips oil. It actually runs! Steam locomotives are extremely high maintenance, one of the key reasons why they were phased out in favor of diesel locomotives from the late 1940s to 1960s.
