Summary
[edit]DescriptionPipe Rock - geograph.org.uk - 823506.jpg |
English: Pipe Rock In the upper formation of the Cambrian quartzite the rock is pinkish in colour and contains whitish vertical stripes described as pipes. These are interpreted as trace fossils left by worms which lived some 500 million years ago in vertical burrows in the sand which eventually lithified to form the quartzite. The geological name for these trace fossils is Skolithus. |
