English: Precentor's pipe, rosewood with maple stripes running most of length, sliding plunger with finial at end, brass gradated strip on one side, separate boxwood mouthpiece, wood case with segmented sliding door, red felt on bottom and on interior rest 1 Precentor's pitch pipe with case maker unknown, (England), date unknown maple, rosewood, boxwood, brass, overall length 478 mm notes indicated on the brass strip 1998.60.249 Castle 381 (purchased, Jack) Pitch pipes were used by the precentor during the 18th and 19th centuries to give the starting note to the choir.
