Description

This is an image of a print of a hand coloured engraving by James Sowerby (1757-1822), based on drawing nominally by John White but probably by the convict artist Thomas Watling. It appeared as TAB. XI. in James Edward Smith's 1793 A Specimen of the Botany of New Holland. The plant depicted is Pimelea linifolia.

The accompanying text explains the figure thus:

1. A Flower entire. 2. The same opened, to shew the stamina and style. 3. Pistillum. 4. Common receptacle after the fruit has fallen. 5. Fruit invested with the base of the corolla. 6. Fruit naked.
