Dès l'instant que l'on admettait que les arcs ogives, comme les archivoltes et les arcs-doubleaux, devaient posséder leur colonnette montant de fond, il était logique d'admettre que les formerets eux-mêmes possédassent leurs supports verticaux, et même que les membres de ces nefs de voûtes eussent chacun un point d'appui spécials...

About the middle of the XIII E century already the posts were reduced from the arch ogives of the large vaults until the base even of the pillar; then soon one wanted to carry the arch ogives of the collateral vaults on special posts; the pillars thus took the section given by figure 15: With being the side dealing with the great nave and B the part of the pillar compared to the collateral one.
