Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_70915_21.jpg Notes: ב1879 רכשו נזירות כרמליטיות שטחים חקלאיים מהכפר עמואס מצפון ללטרון. אלכסנדר האוורד נוצרי ממלטה ואמיל בטאט הקימו את quotמלון המכביםquot ליד גבעת לטרון סמוך לשרידי מבצר לטרון הצלבני עבור הנוסעים מיפו לירושלים. ב 1887 הגיע לארץ הנזיר לואי וילה רכש את המלון וגר לבד. המנזר הוקם באזור ב- 1890 בגלל קרבתו לאמאוס ניקופוליס עיר רומית-ביזנטית. הנוצרים מאמינים שבה התגלה ישו לתלמידיו. הנזירים קיבלו מהנזירות חלק מהקרקע שבבעלותן ונטעו בה עצי זית כרמים דגנים וירקות. הנזירים עוסקים כיום בחקלאות ובייצור יין.
