Masonic Headquarters are in the fine ^Masonic Temple, Tre-mont, corner of Boylston streets.—The structure covers an areaof 10,125 square feet. It rises 125 feet above the sidewalk andextends below it to a depth of about 32 feet, its contents being1.600,000 cubic feet. There are nine full stories above the street,and two below. The available floor area in the whole building VISITORS MEMORANDA. 179 amounts to 91,500 square feet. The exterior of the building is ina classic style of architecture, simple in treatment, with granitefacades of Hallowell granite, and with the rear in gray facebrick. The main Masonic entrance is on Boylston Street. Thevestibule is of glass mosaic, and there are niches in which stand

There is also seen the sealof the Grand Lodge of Alassachusetts, done in marble mosaic.On the second floor arc a Fraternity parlor, Sodality Hall, andcoat rooms. On the third tloor are the oftices of the GrandLodge of Massachusetts. Corinthian Hall, on this floor, is con-sidered one of the handsomest rooms in the country. It is in a 180 GUIDE TO BOSTON. very refined style of architecture of the Corinthian order. Aroundthe Hall are thirty-five columns and pilasters. There is anelaborate cornice and ceiling. The decorations are in ivorytones, and in gold and silver. The pedestals are of white marble,w^ith carved capitals, surmounted by bronze candelabra.
